It is usual for a receiver to have several HDMI inputs. This is where you connect the HDMI outputs from your devices. Even though the input is labeled with a device name – it doesn’t matter what device you connect to it. They are all the same.

Completely agree, it shouldn’t need to default to av4, mine jumps from hdmi1 for sky to av4 within a few seconds to so by rights if should be possible to tell it not to do that as well, may have another play over the rainy weekend. I have same problem. My Yamaha 773 switches to AV4 and I lose sound.

The 675 defaulted to AV4 irrespective of the HDMI port used on the F8500. It all worked just fine – TV comes on, 675 comes on – Cab/Sat input – fine. Sort of….. The 675 clicks to AV4 after a second or two. Bit of a pain but I’m sure I can re-assign the inputs so its not a problem.

Can a Yamaha v685 work with a HDMI cable?

I have had my RX-V685 for about 6 months now and has been working flawlessly up until today. I have it setup to send HDMI output on HDMI 1. When I turned my system today my TV was not seeing any input from HDMI 1 on the V685. I tried another cable, and I tried a different HDMI port on the TV but neither one helped.
