How do you identify a leak?

By David Perry

How do you identify a leak?

Locate your water meter and check the leak indicator to see if it is moving. Depending on the brand of your meter, the leak indicator could be a small triangular shaped dial or a small silver wheel that rotates when water is flowing through the meter. If the dial is moving, chances are, you have a leak.

What should I do if my GERNIE hose is leaking?

You should also check the fitting and attaching thread on the gernie for possible cracks etc as well as checking to confirm the fitting still has an o’ring fitted and if missing replace o’ring or fitting. I tried lowering the tap pressure which didn’t make any difference.

Why is my garden hose not retaining the seal?

Your problem maybe caused by your hose loosing its softness and flexibility due to UV exposure so your fittings maybe no longer able to retain the seal on the hose.

Why does the hose leak from the 4 tap connector?

On further inspection the leak is being caused by the hose connector being pushed out slightly so the conncection is weaker from the tap line to 4 tap connector. Feel like a screw on connection would be better here as that hose is never undone. Would this strain definitely be causing the connections from the 4 tap connector to leak?

Where does the hose come from on a Gerni?

It’s coming out of the gerni garden hose attachment that screws in at the front of the Gerni unit. This is where the garden hose connects to the Gerni and then back to the water tap. I recently bought a brand new Pope premium garden hose so it’s definitely not the hose. cheekyage writes… so it’s definitely not the hose. Sorry for the confusion.

What causes the end of a garden hose to leak?

The most common reasons garden hose ends leak and spew water around the hose-end fitting are a worn-out washer or cracks that have developed from repeated bending.

Where are the threads on a garden hose?

Threads are the small rings you’ll see on the outside of a faucet or on the inside of a garden hose’s fitting. The threads are supposed to fit together in a screw-like manner to attach a hose to a faucet to allow water to come through without leaking or losing pressure.

What should I do if my garden hose washer is leaking?

Lay the hose on the ground and pressurized it with your hand to cut it properly. You should cut it a few inches back from the bad spot. Replace the rubber hose washer inside the female end of the connector. Make sure the sleeve goes all the way into the hose and it has a good rubber seal.

Why does my sprinkler system leak after replacing a gasket?

If the coupling on either end of the hose continues to leak after a gasket replacement, the coupling may have gotten physically misshapen by a run-in with a lawn mower or other piece of heavy equipment. A bent coupling loses the watertight seal between the hose and a spigot, nozzle, or sprinkler, causing a leak.
