Is the Yamaha r-s300 a good audio receiver?

The Yamaha R-S300 is a very good sounding receiver and just plain easy to operate. Don’t let the 50 watts per channel rating turn you away. It is very adequate power for all but the most power hungry speakers. [Jun 13, 2011]

Why does my home theater receiver keep shutting down?

What are the features of a Yamaha S300?

Advanced features include continuously variable loudness control, Pure Direct, along with Yamaha iPod dock connection and a 40-station AM/FM for great music enjoyment. The Yamaha R-S300 is a very old school but a very good performing receiver. By “old school”, I mean that more functions can be done at the receiver instead of via the remote.

Why does my Yamaha receiver keep shutting down?

Yamaha receivers (like many) will shut off/go into protect mode if there is a short or if a speaker is not properly connected. And, as Robert noted above, they will also shut down if there is not enough available current to properly power the amp during loud passages. You need to determine the reason your receiver is shutting down.

What to do when your home theater receiver keeps shutting down?

Disconnect one of the speaker wires from the back of the receiver. If it shuts down again then disconnect another one. Keep doing this until it stays on or you run out of wires to disconnect. Also, make sure all speakers are set to Small in the setup menu and the crossover to 100 or higher regardless of what speakers they are or how big.
